Elderbrook

Elderbrook

On a sunny day in February 2017, Elderbrook headed to Brixton to collaborate and share ideas with CamelPhat. Sat on the floor, he listened to an otherwise finished instrumental. Hastily writing down lyrics and recording some vocals, the result was a “cool little club record” called ‘Cola’. “On paper it doesn’t sound like it should work,” admits Elderbrook some fifteen months later. “It’s a techno beat with me whispering about Coca-Cola over the top. It sounds like a very odd conceptual art piece, but it all worked out.” The first sign that it was indeed working came when CamelPhat texted Elderbrook to say that the track was going to be released as a single. Exploding into the summer, ‘Cola’ catapulted from the underground into charts all over the world. It emerged as a surprise contender for the 2018 Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording, and its success resulted in Elderbrook and CamelPhat earning an Ivor Novello nomination for Best Contemporary Song.

Manila Grey

Manila Grey

Manila Grey may have only surfaced two years ago, but their musical relationship started nearly a decade ago. Childhood friends Neeko and Soliven grew up with their eyes glued to their television screens, as they soaked up the sounds of Outkast, Maxwell, Usher and Musiq Soulchild while watching RapCity and Vibe on MuchMusic. Then, in the summer of 2009, they began making music together. “There were definitely a lot of takes, a lot of laughs and a lot of hours online looking for beats,” Soliven remembers. “It was a time of discovery.”But Neeko and Soliven took their musical ambitions to the next level in 2016 when they officially formed Manila Grey, an act that paired modern hip-hop production with Neeko’s rapping and Soliven’s singing. Much of this new chapter in their musical career, the duo notes, is thanks to collaborator and producer Azel North. “He not only produces the beats, but he also pushes the sound design for Manila Grey,” Neeko explains. “The man is very dedicated to his sounds, and that really pushes us to cross some boundaries and dive deeper into these records.”The resulting songs are some of Canada’s most polished and confident in current hip-hop, at times reminiscent of The Weeknd and Majid Jordan. But, of course, there’s one difference that makes Manila Grey stand out from their R&B contemporaries: their unabashed embrace of their Filipino culture. Neeko and Soliven aren’t afraid to admit that their culture informs their approach to their music — in fact, it fuels them more now than when they first got into songwriting.

Respect, diversity, and positive memories are at the heart of what FVDED In The Park stands for.

More than just another concert, we are a community of open-minded individuals that embrace the differences between us. We ask our fans to be kind to one another, treat your friends and strangers with consideration, and make good choices.

Our staff will assist anyone that needs help or feels unsafe without judgement. Reach out to security staff, volunteers, or anyone wearing a radio to help you if need them.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM US:

FVDED In The Park will not tolerate any harassment based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, body size, appearance, age or national origin. If you feel like you’re being harassed, are the victim of nonconsensual touching, or otherwise feel unsafe, please report it to the nearest staff member. Familiarize yourself with what help is available onsite. We take these concerns very seriously and will support you in resolving the issue.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP:

We’re throwing the party and we’re committed to making it fun. But this isn’t one-sided! We need your help to make it extra epic for everyone. Here are three easy ways to look out for yourself and those around you:

  • Watch out for your neighbours – if someone around you looks like they need help, check in with them. If someone is getting unruly, alert the nearest staff member. Keep an eye on your belongings.
  • Be considerate – this is a shared space and we want everyone to enjoy themselves. Keep the vibes chill and your hands to yourself.
  • Use the buddy system – if one of your friends is in trouble, please alert festival staff – they will assist you, no questions asked.

PREPARING FOR THE EVENT

We want every fan to feel safe at the festival. Specific questions regarding safety, security, medical, and any others can be directed to info@fvdedinthepark.com. If you have an immediate need while on-site seek out any security, medical or police member.

3 Things to Remember:

  • Attend with a friend – plan your festival experience together
  • Check the weather and come prepared – sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, rainwear
  • Bring hearing protection

Festivals are better with friends, right? Make sure that you have a trusted festival friend. Plan how you’ll stay connected. Look out for them and have them look out for you.

Pay attention to the weather forecast – Remember sunscreen (non-aerosol), hats, sunglasses or plan to bring a rain jacket or coat if it looks like it might rain. After your finished dancing it might be just the thing to keep you warm on your trip home.

Dress for comfort. Consider functionality and personal comfort. Although we love costumes, light weight clothing that provides sun protection is ideal. If you do choose to brighten our event with a costume, ensure you take regular breaks to cool down.

Want to spend all day front and center? That’s awesome! Bring some hearing protection.

GETTING TO THE EVENT

3 Things to Remember:

  • Plan your transportation to and from the festival
  • Arrive early. You should plan to get to the festival at least 40 minutes before your “must see” set
  • Prepare for security screening – review the permitted items list prior to arriving and have totes and bags ready for inspection

Plan your entrance: Skytrain, Transit and Taxis are all good options for getting here.

If you need assistance with accessibility or have any questions contact LNWesternCanadaHelp@LiveNation.com.

Come with your festival friend. Plan to leave with them.

Allow extra time to get here. There will be lineups to get in, be patient and make friends with those around you. Remember have your wristband before you leave for the festival, this will allow for the fastest possible entry time.

Illicit substances will not be permitted onto the festival grounds. We believe that the consumption of all illicit substances carries risk and advise strongly against it.

For the safety of everyone entering the festival, all patrons are subject to a full and complete search prior to entry. Please review the Prohibited Items List for a stress-free entry process that will be available closer to the festival.

AT THE EVENT

3 Things to Remember:

  • Know how to get help if you need it
  • Take breaks to stay hydrated and nourished
  • Set a meeting place and check in schedule in case you get separated from your friends.

Check out the locations of the water stations, chill out areas, and first aid stations so you know where these important health resources are.

Take rest breaks. Know your limits. Drink responsibly and pace yourself to ensure you have energy to enjoy the entire show.

Stay hydrated. Drink water regularly throughout the event. You can mix it up with electrolyte drinks (not caffeinated energy drinks) to top up those energy levels. Avoid mixing alcohol and energy drinks.

Reapply sunscreen every two hours. Wear a hat and take a break in the shade if you can.

Watch your drink. Don’t leave any of your beverages unattended.

Eat. Eating regularly is especially important if you are consuming alcohol or other substances.

Consent – Yes is the only acceptable consent. A revealing outfit is not an invitation to touch.

Seek help if you need it. – If someone has made an approach or touched you in a way you are not comfortable with or just won’t let you dance in peace, let our Security or event staff know.

We do not condone and strongly advise against consuming illicit substances. In addition to being illegal they present many risks to your health, they should never be mixed with other drugs (e.g., alcohol, prescription drugs, energy drinks). Results may not be what you expect and combining drugs can be risky. Especially avoid mixing drugs that lower your blood pressure or make you drowsy or sleepy (e.g., anti-depressants, opiates).

Have a sober companion to watch for any adverse side effects and seek help if necessary. If something doesn’t feel right we have help close at hand. You need to be honest with us and tell our medical team what you consumed (or think you consumed). You won’t get in trouble from us – we are concerned about your health.

Visit the medical tent, first aid station, chill out zone or ask our roaming medics or security team if you are feeling unwell, unsafe or need assistance.

HEADING HOME

3 Things to Remember:

  • Plan your ride home at the start of the day. Tell your friends and stick with the plan
  • “Yes” is the only acceptable form of consent
  • Be cautious about your decisions if you have consumed any substances

Know who you are going home with. Stay in contact with your festival friend and don’t leave without them.

Know how you are getting home – don’t drive under the influence of anything. Use public transit, a taxi or a prearranged ride where possible.

If you are feeling unsafe, please talk to any of our staff. We are here to help.

“Yes” is the only acceptable consent. If you’re intoxicated your decision-making process is impacted. Ensure your friends have your back.
